Abstract:

Search area Volcanoes are situated in south western of Syria, exact in Jabl Al Arab, considered to be extinct ones in terms of their activities, -cracked craters in terms of morphology and are of slag composite in terms of its structure. They line up around the weak-tectonic lines (faults lines) with the direction of north and north west- south and south east. One of their main morphological characters is that they vary in shapes ,where oval and circle shapes are most dominants in that region. One of the biggest development the hard plugging of their craters with cooled magma which led to for the boiling magma to find their way to surface through the weakest point of the volcano’s body as lava shaping the volcano in different way. In this study the focus will be on three types of volcanos in which structurally they are different; two volcanoes composite of slag, cone-shaped with some concaving for their peaks , namely; Al ghararah and Alkalaa volcanoes and the third is made of basalt, distorted-cone- shape with base made of slag , namely Aljamal volcanoes.

In addition there will be a focus on Tal Shihan. This hill has rather strange character when looking at it from the southern west direct where it appear as a crescent due to the eruption that caused its crater to crack from one side with basalt composite while the north east is made of volcanic slag where the volcanic asphalt extraction industry is taking place, Although, Jabal Al Arab volcanos are still keeping ,structurally, their concavity, height and the corresponding in direction between the volcanoes slopes and the geological layers , the climate and anthropogenic effect are evident. The climate effect is most pronounced on the north east of Tal Shihan however the anthropogenic effect are far greater on Tal Shihan due to the establishment of asphalt extraction industry at the bottom of the hill and in some cases at the peak of the hills which changed the morphology of made the steeper cliffs and taluses at the bottom of the hills.. All information extracted were pointing out that area volcanoes are Stromboli type, except volcano Aljamal is Volcanic type.
